"A view you have to earn".

Technically demanding and steep trails but a magical view from the Hockenhorn await you on this route. You can take a break before the ascent to the Hockenhorn in the Lötschenpasshütte. Surefootedness is required.

The first 150 vertical meters, which lead from the mountain station along the first chairlift on the Stafel, are quite steep. Then you turn left below the Lauchernalp mountain house and walk through beautiful terrain to the Mälcherbeden, which lie at 2288m. Once at the Mälcherbeden, the path continues quite flat at first, then comes the ascent to the saddle. From this point, you see for the first time to the other side of the valley and down to the Kummenalp. A short detour to the Hockuchriz is worth it. Over rocks and stones, the hiking trail continues to the Lötschenpass, where a magical atmosphere with a view of the Bietschhorn awaits you. In the Lötschenpasshütte, built in 1955 and renovated in 2008, Beat and his warm-hearted team await you, offering fine food and a cozy atmosphere. For lovers of quark cakes, I can highly recommend them. Further to the Hockenhorn is a blue-white marked alpine path. Unfortunately, you must be very attentive to stay on the path and best follow the "stone men". Caution and surefootedness are required when ascending the summit. All the effort is rewarded with a magnificent view from the summit. It's a dream! The descent follows the same path as the ascent to the Lötschenpasshütte. Then it goes past the lake and steeply down to the Kummenalp. At the Kummenalp you can refresh yourself in the mountain guesthouse and enjoy the beautiful terrace. Then the route continues undulating along the Lötschental high trail back to Lauchernalp.
