"A ridge with a magnificent panorama"
A steep ascent of 1,400 meters in altitude, a beautiful ridge, a magnificent panorama, and a section of the Lötschental high route sum up this route briefly. Good fitness and sure-footedness are required.
The route begins with an ascent of about 1,300 meters in altitude over approximately four kilometers, from Ferden up to Niwengrat. Halfway up the ascent is Faldumalp, which offers a beautiful view of the entire valley and has a water point. Once you reach the ridge, a magnificent view of Valais and its 4000-meter peaks awaits you. Concentration is required on the ridge up to the summit; however, the hiking trail is very much "runnable" except for two short sections. Enjoy the view from the summit over the Lötschental, then return the same way back to Faldumalp. The Lötschental high route leads you back to Lauchernalp. You can take a break before the last kilometers at the mountain inn Kummenalp.
