The Lötschental is a typical Alpine valley nestled between the Bernese and Valais Alps. The striking Bietschhorn, visible from far and wide, is the main mountain of the Lötschental with an altitude of 3,934 m and has been part of the Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. The valley is about 30 km long, making it the largest of the Valais side valleys branching off to the north of the Rhone. Imposing mountain peaks with their larch-covered foothills seem to hold the villages in their arms. The tourist facilities blend idyllically into the homely architecture. Rushing streams and quiet lakes set accents.
