Lötschental Destination Strategy

The Lötschental region has experienced positive growth in tourism in recent years. Overnight stays reached new record highs, and the region’s tourism offerings were modernized and expanded. However, the landslide on May 28, 2025, fundamentally changed the situation. These events have left a deep impact and presented the destination with new challenges. Accommodation facilities were destroyed, tourism infrastructure was lost, and numerous people were severely affected in both their personal and professional lives.

Despite these drastic changes, the Lötschental still possesses valuable resources and great potential. The unique natural and cultural landscape, the living traditions, the dedicated people, and the existing tourism offerings form an important foundation for further development. These strengths must be preserved, further developed, and utilized responsibly.

Today, more than ever, the future of the Lötschental requires a clear focus, shared goals, and close collaboration across the entire destination. Sustainable tourism and regional development can only succeed if municipalities, tourism organizations, mountain railways, service providers, and other partners take joint responsibility. Mutual respect, trust, and open dialogue form the foundation for successful collaboration.
