The Road to Blatten

Blatten – Deeply Rooted, Reimagined. Guided by this central theme, the residents of Blatten have launched the White Paper, which contains their thoughts, wishes, and suggestions for the new village.

How do you rebuild a village? That question could be left entirely to architects and engineers. But how do you rebuild a sense of home? Only the residents themselves can answer that question.

This is one of the reasons why the municipality of Blatten, based on the decree of December 18, 2025, appointed a reconstruction commission to oversee the rebuilding of the municipality of Blatten in accordance with the municipal council’s guidelines. Two community meetings were held in February and March 2026. Approximately 270 residents and second-home owners participated. From 15 hours of audio recordings, over 1,800 Post-it notes, and numerous personal conversations, a clear picture emerged of how people envision their new home.

The collected ideas were summarized in the White Paper under the following topics:

  • Construction and Housing
  • Social Affairs, Education, and Culture
  • Community Infrastructure and Safety
  • Environment and Energy
  • Mobility
  • Agriculture, Economy, and Tourism

In addition, there are the municipality’s basic infrastructure facilities, such as the public works yard, community center, parking garage, recreational facilities, and civil defense shelters.

The study commission, which begins in July 2026, will produce several drafts for a master plan by the end of the year, which will then be evaluated by a jury. The municipality of Blatten expects to receive a first concrete draft for the new “BLATTEN 2030” by March 2027.
