Vernissage - Invitation

The vernissage of the special exhibition will take place on Saturday, June 6 at 2 pm in front of the museum in Kippel (in case of bad weather in the Burgersaal in Kippel).

Memories of Blatten

On May 28, 2025, a landslide and glacier collapse almost completely destroyed the village of Blatten and the hamlet of Ried. Our exhibition aims to make a contribution to this immense experience of loss. Collective and individual memories form the central theme. These are memories for the future and for a new Blatten.

The exhibition themes are:
- Blatten 1900 to 2025: A photographic panorama
- Blatten in art and film
- Blatten - A community
- Ried - The birthplace of tourism in the Lötschental
- The long duration
- The loss of a cultural heritage
- Life stories
- A piece of home
- The lost object
- A monument - The church of Blatten
- The sound of a village - The music society
- People of Blatten
- A media event
- A future for Blatten

The following spoke:
Matthias Bellwald, Mayor of Blatten
Rita Kalbermatten-Ebener and Thomas Antonietti, curators of the Lötschental Museum

The vernissage will be accompanied by music from the "Fafleralp" Blatten music society.

You are cordially invited!

On the trail of the Tschäggättä
The remoteness of the Lötschental has been the source of a multitude of stories, legends and myths. Wild creatures hunted through the history of the Lötschental and left their traces behind. They are regarded as the origin of the Tschäggättä tradition, which is still celebrated today with great attention to detail.
