The route

All information about this excursion

Directions

The Winter Adventure Route starts with the station directly opposite the COOL SCHOOL ski school office on the Lauchernalp. Our constant companion Goori introduces himself and the route at this station. At the second station, the topic "Wintertime in the Lötschental" is vividly explained. You will learn how people lived in winter in the past and can explore even more interesting facts at the "Did you know..?" experience station using flip panels. At the third station on the theme "The Miracle of Snow", Goori explains why snow is actually white and how it is formed. Through a kaleidoscope at the experience station, you can then discover the different shapes of snow crystals yourself. Next is the station "Where are the animals in winter?" Here you learn which animals are native to the Lötschental and where they spend the winter. At the experience station, Goori challenges us to match animal tracks in the snow to the corresponding animals on the flip panels. You continue to the fifth station where you learn how avalanches form and can test your newly acquired knowledge about avalanche types, weather factors in avalanche formation, and more on rotating blocks at the experience station. At the next station "You are what you eat", you will learn how to best nourish yourself in winter and what was eaten in the past. At the experience station, you can then guess the sought animals by feeling different furs in touch boxes. At the next station "Giants of Ice", you will learn a lot about the Lang Glacier in the Lötschental and can find out at the experience station how much the glacier melts per year. You continue towards the Hockenkapelle where you are informed about climate and temperatures in the Lötschental. At the oversized thermometer, you can read the temperature. "Is there a new record low today?" asks Goori. On to the ninth station on the theme "Skiing – the sport of the Alps". Goori tells you about the history of skiing and the Lauchernalp ski area. At the experience station, you then go on a quest for errors in two pictures cleverly hidden by Goori. Who finds all five mistakes first? At the next station, you learn about various customs in the Lötschental. Did you already know the Tschäggättä or the Lötschentaler Herrgottsgrenadiere? At the oversized memory game, you can uncover the two matching customs. At the eleventh station, Goori invites you to spin the wheel of fortune. On the panel, you will find the game descriptions, ranging from the "Snow Angel Game" to "Snowball Jumping". At the twelfth station, you have now reached the end of the Winter Adventure Route. On the panel, you can now see where to get a warm cup of tea or a strengthening snack.
