Hiking: Kippel
Admire the Lötschental valley opposite and experience a different kind of circular hike.
The Gattunalp is a lost alp on the "shadow side" of the Lötschental valley above Kippel. Formerly grazed, now abandoned, a cross and some crumbling foundations remind of the past. Few tourists hike through the Chaschtlerwald to the Gattunalp. Others miss the view of the opposite developed side of the valley. On the far left are the walls at Stritungrat, dry stone walls of national importance, built by Italian migrant workers around the turn of the last century to protect the Goppenstein station. The Faldum, Resti, and Kummen alp areas are inhabited by the population during summer holidays today. The Lauchernalp with its lifts and widely scattered holiday homes stands as a witness of the 21st century, and further right the Petersgrat. The white glacier band is wonderful to look at on a beautiful summer day with a bright blue sky. Respect the surroundings of the Gattunalp with its perfect habitats for animals and plants.
