Wild camping is not permitted in the Lötschen Valley

Wild camping is generally prohibited throughout the canton of Valais because the risks in the area of natural hazards are relatively high. Another reason for the ban is the problem of waste and contamination by faeces. 
In the Lötschental, the best places for camping are in the water area and thus in danger zones. At the official campsites, the risks are reduced by flood protection measures and safety concepts. It is not possible to monitor the entire area. As the storms in August 2022 impressively showed, a peaceful mountain stream can become a life-threatening threat within minutes due to a local thunderstorm that goes unnoticed in a side valley. For this reason, the municipal authorities enforce the ban and issue an administrative fine in the event of a misdemeanour. Please use the official campsites - for your own safety.
