Tips and tricks for snowshoeing and winter hiking

Explore the snow-covered mountain landscape at walking pace

Hike amidst the fresh snow and explore the splendour of the snow-covered landscape. You can make your own tracks off the beaten track and enjoy unspoilt nature to the full.

In order to enjoy snowshoeing to the full, good planning and choosing the right equipment is of the utmost importance.

  • Find out about the status of the snow protection trails and winter hiking trails
  • Find out about the snow conditions and weather
  • Allow enough time and don't overextend yourself
  • Do not undertake snowshoe hikes alone
  • Drink, eat and rest regularly

When snowshoeing, the onion principle is ideal for adapting to changing temperatures. It is recommended to wear clothing that is windproof and waterproof and to avoid cotton fabrics as they can absorb moisture. Merino wool is an excellent choice as it is breathable and regulates body temperature. You should also bear these other points in mind:

  • Weatherproof, warm clothing
  • Sturdy, warm shoes
  • Dry spare clothes
  • Sunglasses or ski goggles
  • Sun cream
  • Adjustable poles
  • Snacks
  • First aid kit
  • Charged smartphone and power bank
  • Headlamp

Respecting wildlife quiet zones is crucial to maintaining the fragile balance and natural dynamics of the environment. These zones serve as refuges for wildlife. By respecting and avoiding these areas, we allow the animals to rest undisturbed and protect their habitats from disturbance and destruction.
