Marvel at the Lötschental and experience a quite unique circular walk.
The Gattenalp is a forlorn peak on the "shady side" of the Lötschental above Kippel. Previously inhabited, but today abandoned, a cross and a few crumbling foundations are all that remain of its past. Few tourists hike through the forest "Chaschtlerwald" to the Gattenalp but they miss the view across to the opposite, more developed side of the valley. Start at the Kippel camping site. The first ascent to Biel covers an altitude difference of approx. 100 m where the circular route then starts. Hike up through the "Chaschtlerwald" forest and at the Gattunalp the descent drops down through the "Chipelwald" forest.
